Funding Boost for Coldstream Community Trust

Coldstream Community Trust is celebrating a £13,924.00 funding boost from SUEZ Communities Trust for their repair work to Listed Building project.

Coldstream Community Trust (CCT), a registered charity established in 1999, runs the local Community Centre in Coldstream. The Centre is a hub for a wide range of activities in the town and is well used by a variety of community groups. Funding has allowed for repairs to the Centre’s roof, masonry, and drainpipes. Bad weather in early 2021 brought to light water damage to the flat roof at the entrance hall, vestibule, and part of the outer wall. The flat roof was at the end of its life and needed urgent repair to prevent leakage. Original guttering and drainpipes also needed to be replaced.

Susan Burnett, who is Chair of the Community Trust, said that “The upkeep of a listed building is an expensive and ongoing commitment and this funding from SUEZ was vital to ensure that the building was weatherproof for the many users of the Community Centre.  Everyone involved with the Trust was extremely grateful to SUEZ for their help with this project.”

Marek Gordon, Chairman of SUEZ Communities Trust added “SUEZ Communities Trust provides funding awards through the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund. We were delighted to be able to offer funding to Coldstream Community Trust.”

SUEZ Communities Trust

SUEZ Communities Trust is an independent funding body set up in 1997 to provide funding through the Landfill Communities Fund and Scottish Landfill Communities Fund. SUEZ Communities Trust supports projects using tax credits donated by SUEZ Recycling and Recovery UK. SUEZ Communities Trust funds improve vital public recreation facilities such as village halls, community centres, sport, heritage, green spaces and play areas.

Scottish Landfill Tax and the Scottish Landfill Communities Fund

The Scottish Landfill Communities Fund (SLCF) is a tax credit scheme, linked to Scottish Landfill Tax that encourages landfill site operators to provide contributions to approved bodies, who can then pass the funds onto community and environmental projects. The SLCF only applies to Scottish Landfill Tax (SLfT) and not to UK Landfill Tax, as it replaced the UK scheme in Scotland on 1st April 2015.
