Unfortunately another Trustee has intimated that they will be stepping down at the end of our financial year – the end of August. This leaves us with only 4 Trustees and our constitution stipulates that we must have a minimum of 6 Trustees. This leaves us without a Treasurer and Secretary which makes it impossible for the remaining Trustees to continue. We have already been in touch with the Charity Regulator to advise them that we are in breach of our constitution. Without more people in the town getting actively involved in the running of the Centre there is the possibility that we will have to close our doors.
Many groups use the building and if we close they will have to look for other venues and there is always the possibility that some of those groups may have to fold. Regular users include the After School Club who have dedicated space in the Centre, Interest Link – a befriending group for people with learning difficulties, art classes, a Latin group and various exercise and sports classes. The Flower Show is held in the Centre every year and of course, Santa visits when the Christmas lights are switched on.
A special members’ meeting will be held on Friday 23rd September at 7pm in the Tweed Hall to discuss with members and other interested people what the next steps are. The Trustees manage the building on behalf of the people of Coldstream but your support is needed to enable us to do this.
